Who hasn’t dreamt of breaking free from the shackles of employment and becoming their own boss? But whether or not you will be successful when you decide to go it alone comes down to two things – commitment and passion.

The biggest piece of advice I could give to anyone starting their own clothing line, or any business for that matter is to truly believe in yourself and your brand. Let’s face it, if you don’t – who will? Whether you are launching your brand as a side project or you’ve given up your day job to pursue your dream full-time – you have to be prepared to put in the blood, sweat and tears for as long as it takes to see results.

Most brands don’t find huge success over night. In fact, it can take many months to years to build up the kind of following and hype that will ensure brand longevity. So the key is holding onto your desire to be successful through the hard times and keeping your passion burning for as long as it takes for your brand to explode.

The benefits of being your own boss and doing what you love really speak for themselves – you work the hours you want, you are filled with passion for what you do, and you no longer have to listen to someone higher on the food chain barking orders at you. But there are things that have the potential to break you when you are going solo – you, and only you have to buckle down and work as many hours as it takes to get the work done, there’s no one else to blame when things don’t go to plan and sometimes it’s hard to explain to your loved ones that your priority has to be your brand. But trust me when I say, it’s worth it.

The most important thing I can say to you is this – Never give up on your brand, no matter how difficult it may get and remember, you’re one of the lucky few who are living the dream of doing what they truly love, so embrace it and enjoy the ride.
