Being female (yes, that’s right readers I am female) makes me a minority in the t-shirt game. I often stop and think how incredible our tee community is – it’s jam packed full of amazing and talented people from all over the world and of all different backgrounds. That’s rad. But let’s face it, it’s a male dominated scene.
Fear not, this post is not being written in the spirit of 1960′s bra burning or anything of the like. Quite the opposite actually. I personally take my hat off to all the dudes out there holding it down and keeping this scene strong. I just wanted to stop and reflect on how lucky we all are to be apart of a community that is so diverse.
I do however have a keen interest in seeing other women make a strong name for themselves in the tee game. So if you’re a female behind a brand, show us what you’ve got. OK, that sounded a little off. Never the less, if you’re out there listening come forward and show off your brands to us..

I am a female in the process of starting our own clothing label to compliment our online store http://www.scatterindustries.com.au. We specialise in fashion for the heavy music industry – where black t-shirts are the standard uniform for our sub-culture.
We are stocking a lot of product for guys at the moment but very little for girls simply because little product exists for our market.
The biggest issue I am facing is finding t-shirt styles to suit women. There are a few good brands out there developing your standard t-shirt and tank top styles, but these quite often are uncomfortable or unflattering for the female shape. But we really want to be printing on styles that are aligned with current fashion trends.
If anyone out there is making headway on this please let me know – we would be more that happy to stock new products in our store or work with new designs for our own line.

Hey Ang. Thanks for getting involved on the site. I had a look at your products, and I like the idea of moving into female cuts to diversify your range – very cool. Finding quality garments over this side of the pond can be a little challenging. I’d be curious to see what brands you’ve tried? AS Colour make fashion-cut gear that is all sweatshop free. The sizes are a little on the small side and I’ve found they shrink a fair bit. But all in all, they make solid products with a lot of variety. I honestly don’t think you can beat American Apparel/Anvil/Alternative Apparel for quality, style and fit. Obviously, as they are American labels they can cost a little more. There are a few printers in Australia that stock these brands and if you like I can point you in the right direction. My advice would be to order in a few shirts from different manufacturers, say all mediums, and then compare them for size, comfort and durability.
